The Canticle of the Creatures, written by Saint Francis of Assisi around 1224, is considered one of the first poetic texts in Italian literature. It is a hymn of praise to God for the beauty and goodness of creation, but also a song of universal brotherhood. The profound meaning of the Canticle is an invitation to gratitude, humility, and respect for every creature, because all are part of the same family and participate in the praise of the Creator.
